LNG Canada names new leader, vintage Paris VR and a plastic recycling strategy

The new guided tour allows participants to immerse themselves in the Belle Époque atmosphere and experience the excitement of the iconic tower’s debut.

📈 LABOUR BY THE NUMBERS

Over the past year, Canada’s construction industry saw modest employment growth of 0.2% and a slight reduction in the national unemployment rate from 4.5% to 4.4%, despite signs of slowing activity in November. Youth aged 15–24 experienced the most significant gains, with employment up 15.2% and their unemployment rate halved to 5.5%. Female employment also grew by 7.2%, while male employment declined by 0.8%.

Murray Goodman is joining Shindico as its Senior Vice President, Industrial & Investment. With over 20 years of commercial real estate experience, Goodman specializes in negotiation, property valuation, investment sales, leasing, and development. 

Elise Meakin has been promoted to Senior Project Manager at MAKE Projects. MAKE stated that Meakin has worked on a variety of impactful projects in recent years, including the Seabus Refurbishment, multiple feasibility studies for Vancouver Coastal Health, Montrose, Smith Campus, and electrical upgrades at BC Children’s and Women’s Hospital.

Lylle Kephart is joining The Fastener Group as President and CEO starting on Jan. 2. Kephart spent 20 years with Acklands-Grainger, where he rose to the position of Senior Director. He also worked as Vice President of The Master Group where he was responsible for post-acquisition integration and strategic initiatives. 

Tyrone Gan, P.Eng., has been awarded the William G. Ross Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Urban Transit Association. Gan, a Senior Vice President with HDR, has more than 40 years’ experience in transportation planning.

Anahita Jami has been promoted to ESG Director at CIMA+. Her previous role was senior sustainability advisor to the environment. Jami has worked for IKCo, Renault, s2e Technologies, the Canadian Urban Transit Research & Innovation Consortium (CUTRIC), Sandler Consultancy and CSA Group.

🗞 HEADLINES

👷 LNG CEO: Chris Cooper, currently LNG Canada’s senior vice-president for Phase 1 pipeline and expansion, will become CEO of the $18-billion Kitimat terminal project on April 1, replacing Jason Klein. The Shell-led initiative, supported by international partners like Petronas and PetroChina, aims to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Asia starting mid-2025. 

♻️Circular work: Light House has launched the Construction Plastics Initiative, a pilot program running until February 2026 that aims to divert and upcycle plastic waste from approximately 10 Metro Vancouver construction sites. The initiative seeks to demonstrate the feasibility of a circular economic model by collecting, processing, and repurposing construction site plastics into new building products.

🕹️ Leading the charge: The federal government, in partnership with Upskill Canada, is funding the Battery Boost program to train up to 400 individuals for jobs at Windsor, Ontario’s electric vehicle battery plant. Running from February 2025 to March 2026, the program uses virtual reality to equip laid-off workers or those seeking career changes with new skills.
