Good morning! 🎥 A new blue collar Canadian workplace comedy will focus on the trades. The creative team behind “Trailer Park Boys” says the series will be a love letter to skilled-trade workers, written with grit, humour, and heart. 

📈 LABOUR BY THE NUMBERS

According to Statistics Canada, skilled trades immigrants' five-year retention rate dropped by 5.8 percentage points, from 83.5% for the 2012 cohort to 77.7% for that of 2016. Meanwhile, economic immigrants admitted through the Provincial Nominee Program experienced a more significant drop in the five-year retention rate (-8.1 percentage points), from 79.6% for the provincial and territorial nominees admitted in 2012 to 71.5% for their counterparts admitted in 2016.

Jatinder Heer is NorLand’s new chief financial officer. He brings over 20 years of progressive experience in business leadership and corporate governance.

Barry Charnish, founding principal of Entuitive in Toronto, has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from Canadian Consulting Engineer. 

Esther Rivard-Sirois has been promoted to principal at Kasian. She has been with the firm for 16 years, starting as an intern architect. 

Norm Streu has been hired as associate counsel for Harper Grey LLP. Streu has an extensive history in the construction sector, previously serving as president of Con-Force Structures, executive vice president of NCM development at Nexii and president of LMS Reinforcing Steel Group. 

Cameron McPhaden is starting a new position as a senior design manager at EllisDon. As part of the team delivering the New Surrey Hospital and BC Cancer Center project, he has recently been confirmed as the Design-Builder's Design Manager, a contractual Key Individual. 

Kristal Kaye has been brought on as chief financial officer for CarbonCure. Kaye brings 25 years of finance expertise across a variety of industries, including mining, energy and retail pharmacy. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) who most recently served as CFO for Arctic Canadian Diamond Company.

🎒 Conestoga College has been named the nation’s best trades school by CourseCompare, an online tool that helps match students with post-secondary institutions based on their career goals. The rankings are based on job placement rates, faculty ratings by students, curriculum, overall learning experience, graduate salaries and graduation rates.

🤝 The Construction Association of New Brunswick (CANB) is forging a strategic partnership with the provincial and federal government. The partnership will help CANB establish a labour force adjustment committee that will spend 100 days identifying short- and long-term solutions to labour shortages.
