Good morning! "Oh stop it! You're making me blush!"—AI is getting more and more human. Newer versions of AI chat tools are now able to express emotion in their voice responses at a level not yet seen before. However, experts warned that due to AI not disclosing their proprietary reasoning methods, users should always check the facts.

📈 LABOUR BY THE NUMBERS

Canada's employment picture remained steady in April with a 6.1% unemployment rate. Job gains were spread across core-aged men and women, with youth showing a significant increase, particularly young men. Part-time work fueled the employment growth, concentrated in sectors like professional services, healthcare, and food services. While some provinces saw stronger job growth, overall hours worked and wages continued to rise year-over-year.

🗞 HEADLINES

🧑‍🎓 Canadian data shows a surprising trend in international student recruitment. Business programs attracted the most students (27% of permits), far exceeding healthcare (6%) and skilled trades (1.25%) despite labor shortages in those areas. Experts say this suggests a serious mismatch between immigration goals and Canada's workforce needs.

🏆 Manitoba's 32nd annual Apprenticeship Highest Achievement Awards ceremony recognized 40 journeypersons with the highest marks in their trades, highlighting the province's investment in skilled labor. The ceremony not only awarded individuals but also acknowledged employers and mentors who contribute to apprentice success.  Manitoba additionally announced $1.5 million more funding for apprentice technical training.

🦅 Quebec’s Ministry of Transport says it has accomplished a rare feat in bird rescue. Their team has moved four rare peregrine falcon eggs produced by a couple of birds living within the steel works of the massive Laviolette Bridge in Trois-Rivières, to a new home (and adoptive parents) living on the Honoré-Mercier Bridge in Montreal.
