📈 LABOUR BY THE NUMBERS
BuildForce Canada reported a substantial rise in the labour force among women under 24 years of age in the construction sector, rising by 79% from November 2022 to November 2023. Women in the core working age group of 25 to 54 years of age also increased by 13.4%.

Austin Lee has started a new position as operations manager at Industra Construction. Lee will work closely with the vice president of operations, all project managers and all superintendents on a routine basis, bridging the gap between management and field operations.

📈 Canada’s population growth has set a new record, growing by more than 430,000 during 2023’s third quarter. It’s the fastest pace of population growth in any quarter since 1957. Statistics Canada stated that this growth has been fuelled by international migration, including roughly 313,000 non-permanent residents (mostly work and study permit-holders) who came to the country during the quarter.
⚒️ Support Ontario Youth (SOY), a government-supported apprenticeship group, has announced the registration of 500 apprentices in the skilled trades.
🚛 Birch Mountain Enterprises (BME), a 100% Indigenous-owned fluid handling company in Fort McMurray, achieved 13% growth and whittled its job vacancies to seven—down from 68 this time last year. Their strategy has been implementing a policy of total transparency.
🌲 High school students in Fredericton, N.B. are getting into the holiday spirit to learn about the skilled trades. Leo Hayes High School are using their carpentry skills to build decorative Christmas trees. Trades instructors say the program has many considering a future in construction.
