Good morning! 👷‍♀️ Mary Smith, Ontario’s first-ever female construction safety inspector, now 90, is being honoured this week at her seniors’ residence. Starting at a demolition company, she worked her way up the ranks to become an inspector in Toronto.  

📈 LABOUR BY THE NUMBERS

Quebec Premier François Legault says that up to 160,000 jobs in Quebec could be lost if the 25% tariffs are maintained. The cities most at risk are Saguenay, Trois-Rivières, and Drummondville. The province is known to be a major hub for U.S. trade, particularly for steel and aluminium.

Kelly Sherman is now President of EmitIQ MRV. Sherman has over two decades of experience in carbon markets, forestry, agriculture, and sustainability leadership. 

Dylan Antunes has started a new role with KGS Group as its Head of Geotechnical in Saskatchewan. Antunes has more than 15 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering.

James Scott is now Principal, Senior Project Director at Stantec. Scott stated he is excited and energized to re-join the Stantec team after 10 years on the owner's side of the industry.

Phillip Stagg-Tanner is stepping into the role of President at Acres Enterprises. As well, Jeremy Buchner will be taking on the role as Vice President of Operations and Mike Broadway will be the company’s new Vice President of Technology and Innovation.  

Michael Pond, Principal with RJC, has been given membership with the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals. The rare distinction signals specialized knowledge in heritage conservation as vetted by peers.

Joe Brake has started at Axiom Builders as its latest Senior Superintendent. Brake has worked for some of Canada’s largest, most sophisticated builders, including Scott Construction Group, Chandos, EllisDon and Peak Construction Group. 

David Peters, CEO of ConstructionClock, has been awarded the Most Promising Founder Award by the Manitoba Technology Accelerator and North Forge. 

Diego Mandelbaum has left his position of Senior Vice President of Development at Creative Energy after five years. Mandelbaum has embarked on a tour of his home country of Argentina before his next move.

New officer: 👷🏻 Reid Hendry, Calgary’s new Chief Housing Officer, has been tasked with executing the city’s housing strategy amid rising affordability concerns. With a background in private-sector land development, Hendry aims to bridge the gap between industry and city administration to deliver housing more efficiently. 

End of the road: 🚧 Road builders in P.E.I. are raising alarms about the impending end of federal infrastructure funding, warning of potential job losses and industry instability if long-term investment isn't secured. Workers in the sector rely on federal funds to sustain road maintenance and expansion, especially as P.E.I.’s population grows.
