📈 LABOUR BY THE NUMBERS

According to the latest data from BuildForce Canada, retrofitting Canada’s residential, commercial, and institutional building stock to incorporate sustainable fuel sources, technologies, and materials could require as many as 57,000 additional construction workers and generate more than $81 billion in new construction investments by 2032.

👷‍♀️ PEOPLE MOVES

Braden Barwich has been promoted to VP of revenue at SiteMax after five years with the software provider. The company stated that Barwich has played a pivotal role in bringing most of its customers on board.

Oliver Dees has been promoted to senior vice president of strategic services at Chandos Construction.  

Christina Chiarini has transferred to PCL’s solar district as district HR/PD coordinator after serving its Toronto district for more than two years. 

Jonathan Graham has joined Kindred Works Development as its new manager of building performance. He holds a master's from Toronto Metropolitan University in building science and has experience in sustainability analysis as well as architecture and engineering consulting.

Pongsatorn Phimnualsri has started a new role as preconstruction technologist at Stack Modular

Cheryl Schindler is Maple Reinders’ new business development manager for its western operations. Schindler said Innovation, integrity, and a diverse portfolio of complex projects are part of what drew her to the company.

🗞 HEADLINES

🚢 Plans to house workers on a ‘floatel’ in B.C. have been sunk (for now). The Woodfibre LNG project’s request to keep 600 workers on a renovated cruise ship has been rejected by Squamish, B.C. officials. The cited concerns about the safety of women and girls, traffic issues, waste management and potential natural hazards. The decision could be revisited as soon as next month. 

👷🏻‍♂️ Rodrigue Gilbert has officially taken over as president of the Canadian Construction Association (CCA). Previously he served as the association’s senior vice-president, public affairs and procurement practices. Since his appointment in February 2018, he has led the CCA’s internal and external communications, government relations and membership management.

🎒 The Ontario government is introducing new policy and legislative measures to attract more young people to the skilled trades, including adding a new apprenticeship pathway and an online job matching platform. Focused Apprenticeship Skills Training (FAST), will allow students in Grades 11 and 12 to participate in more apprenticeship learning while completing high school.
